About Us...

Belfast Canoe Club has a proud record as the oldest canoe club in Northern Ireland. It was founded in 1960 and had major influence in the setting up and early years of both the Canoe Association of Northern Ireland and the Irish Canoe Union. BCC paddlers have had more international competitive honours than any other club in NI and has one current international elite paddler aiming for 2024 Olympic selection, and several Irish and British championship medallists. BCC is the only club in Northern Ireland offering tuition in the Olympic discipline of Sprint Canoeing as well as Marathon and Wildwater Racing: we also welcome those who wish to develop their skills to undertake canoeing as a purely recreational pursuit, particularly families. We encourage all paddlers to obtain progressive awards and coaching qualifications. We are proud to be inclusive and open to all. Our current membership age range is from 10 to 70. Belfast Canoe Club operates all year round: our main paddling base is now at Lough Henney, Bresagh Road, BT27. We also use a swimming pool and various other indoor facilities for winter training. We have over 30 kayaks of various types available for use by members. We are a charity registered with the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland and are currently progressing towards 'Clubmark'registration. Our coaches all have appropriate AccessNI clearance and our various safeguarding policies and codes of conduct can be found on the 'membership' page. Paddlers with basic canoeing experience are welcome at any time: we offer courses for novices at least twice during the spring/summer season.
